The New York Times Magazine: Photographs is edited by Kathy Ryan, the publication’s Director of Photography, who discusses the “perpetual hunger” of a weekly magazine and the challenge of keeping readers constantly stimulated and wanting more. “How do we reinvent ourselves this week?” is a question faced in each issue, and this volume presents the hundreds of ways it has been answered.
The book features more than four hundred images, organized into five sections: Portraits, Documentary, Photo-Illustration, Style, and Projects. Throughout the book, the approaches, personalities, philosophies, and circumstances behind the images are revealed in anecdotes from the photographers, their subjects, Kathy Ryan herself, and other NYT Magazine staff members who have participated in their production.
