From the Author/Photographer
“This work covers a period of three and a half months in Bosnia, between March and September 1993….
“The work was initiated and produced by François Hers, who knew of my project ‘Hate Thy Brother’ about the reemerging patterns of hate and discrimination in Europe, and who, because of his contacts with Bosnia, felt the urgency.
“Given the limited time to complete this project, I knew from the beginning I could not explain all that was happening in Bosnia — the historical intricacies, the weight of blood. I set out only to provide a visual continuum of experience, of existence. So this book is a raw take, a non-edit, the most un-photographic project I have done.”
The condition of the book is rated as Very Good because the hardcover corners are worn and in one case a bit compressed (see photo), but the pages, photos and text are immaculate.
The book was a gift many years ago from the owner/editor of the N.Y. agency that I worked with.
I think that given the current circumstances in Ukraine, this book takes on an added meaning and relevance.
